Natural low-calorie sweetener
Erythritol is used as a low-calorie sweetener. Found naturally in some fruits and fermented foods, it is about 60-70% sweeter than sucrose (table sugar) but has almost no calories. Erythritol is absorbed by the body but not metabolized, so blood sugar and insulin levels are minimal. It also tolerates digestion well compared to other sugar alcohols, so it causes less gastrointestinal discomfort. Erythritol is commonly used in sugar-free and reduced-calorie foods and beverages.
