Description
The Chaga fungus (Inonotus obliquus) is a parasitic fungus that grows on birch trunks in cold northern regions such as Siberia, Canada, Scandinavia and Northern Europe. This fungus has been known for centuries and has long been valued for its beneficial properties.
How chaga mushrooms grow and are harvested
The Chaga mushroom forms naturally as a black, hard-textured formation in the bark of birch trees. Its growth can last from a few to several years. The mushroom absorbs the beneficial nutrients of the tree and is therefore highly enriched with antioxidants, polyphenols and other bioactive substances.
When collecting chaga mushrooms, they are carefully cut from the tree to ensure that the growth of the tree is not damaged. The mushrooms are only harvested from live birch trees in order to preserve their high quality.
Processing
1. Drying: Fresh chaga mushrooms are first dried thoroughly to remove moisture and preserve the active ingredients. This helps to prolong the shelf life of the product.
2. Crushing: Dried mushrooms are hard and difficult to prepare, so they are crushed into small pieces or powder. In this form, it is more easily used to make teas or extracts.
3. Quality check: the mushroom is checked to remove impurities and to ensure that the product meets quality standards.
The long history and natural properties of the Chaga mushroom make it one of nature’s most valuable assets for maintaining health.
